Rajshahi: A 'Tree Plantation Program-2026' was inaugurated at the initiative of the Rajshahi City and District branches of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Peshajibi Dal at Hargram Notunpara Graveyard in Rajshahi City. The programme aims to implement the five-year, 25-crore tree plantation initiative announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to conserve the environment, increase greening, and combat the adverse effects of climate change.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation attended the event as the chief guest, while General Secretary of Rajshahi City BNP, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, accompanied him. The programme was inaugurated by Ariful Islam Zia, the founding president of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Peshajibi Dal. In his speech, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton emphasized the importance of the "25 crore trees in five years" programme, as part of the government's electoral commitment, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He stated that RCC has taken up a programme to plant two lakh fifty thousand trees in the next year, with the first phase involving the plantation of about one lakh saplings.
Riton expressed gratitude towards the professional organization in Rajshahi for their role in implementing the Prime Minister's tree plantation programme. He highlighted the need for cooperation from all, including city dwellers, to advance development works such as strengthening cleanliness activities, mosquito control, removal of mud, tree plantation, and greening. "Only then Rajshahi will grow into a more beautiful, green, and healthy city," he said.
Special guests at the event included General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Peshajibi Dal, Engineer Mohammad Shahidul Islam Russel, Vice-Presidents Mohammad Arfin, S Mizanur Rahman Ohid, Professor Dr. Muhammad Nesar Uddin Talukder, and S A Musa, along with leaders from BNP and its affiliated organizations, the Mosque Committee, Graveyard Committee, and local dignitaries.
