Dhaka: The 6th Bangladesh International Squash Open is set to commence in Dhaka on July 26, bringing a four-day showcase of competitive squash to the city's courts. The event will take place across three venues: Army Squash Complex, Army Office Mess, and the Independent University Squash Court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the competition is sanctioned by the Bangladesh government, the World Squash Federation (WSF), and the Professional Squash Association (PSA). The event will feature two key international competitions: the "PSA Challenge Tour 2025" for boys and the "WSF and PSA Satellite Tournament 2025" for girls. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Dhaka Cantonment Squash Complex.
In a ceremony held at the Bangladesh Olympic Association Auditorium, the tournament trophy was unveiled. Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam attended as the chief guest, with Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation General Secretary Brig Gen G M Quamrul Islam (retd) presiding over the event.
The tournament will see participation from eight professional squash players from Iran, India, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, and Malaysia. Representing Bangladesh will be national team players Shahadat, Rony, and Suman, alongside emerging talents such as BKSP's Saimun, Aminul, Parvez, and the Army's Apan and Aziz.
In the women's satellite tour, thirteen top female players, including local talents Marjan, Chandni, Nabila, Urdu, Meghna, Jui, Manika, and Pooja Rani, will face off against Malaysian twins Vinika and Vartika and Iranian player Ramzanzadeh Namini Nargol. Notably, this marks the first formation of a women's squash team by the Bangladesh Squash Federation since the nation's independence, following a silver medal victory in a recent international competition in Nepal.
