Dhaka:Bangladesh reiterated its commitment to prohibiting chemical weapons during a three-day international training event on the peaceful and responsible uses of chemistry, held in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in collaboration with the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) at Dhaka's Hotel Radisson Blu. Commodore Md Monir Uddin Mallik emphasized that the safe use of chemistry ensures both internal security and international peace.
The programme, titled 'International Training and Education Programme on Peaceful Uses of Chemistry for Youth-2026,' was attended by 17 participants from Bangladesh and seven other Asian countries, along with five local and international trainers. The BNACWC, operating under the Armed Forces Division, played a key role in facilitating the event.
The training aimed to promote responsible chemical practices, reduce risks associated with dual-use chemicals, and strengthen safety culture. It also focused on building cross-border networks and promoting ethical values among future scientists. Commodore Mallik distributed certificates to participants and trainers, reaffirming Bangladesh's support for OPCW initiatives.
