Tokyo:Bangladesh has demonstrated its expanding capabilities in the apparel, home textiles, and leather sectors at the "Fashion World Tokyo (Autumn) 2026," hosted at Tokyo Big Sight, a prominent global fashion exhibition venue.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Pavilion was officially opened by Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali. He inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon and visiting the stalls that featured Bangladeshi products. The pavilion included 27 booths from 25 Bangladeshi companies under the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), with additional participation from five independent companies.

Following the pavilion visit, a seminar titled "Bangladesh: Sourcing Excellence for Apparel, Home Textile and Leather Products" took place, organized by the Bangladesh Embassy and the EPB with support from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The seminar was attended by Japanese importers, investors, trading houses, and business representatives from both countries.

Ambassador Daud Ali emphasized Bangladesh's reputation as a reliable sourcing and investment partner for Japanese businesses, noting the country's strong foundation in various industries, including apparel, textiles, leather and footwear, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, IT-enabled services, and agro-processing. He highlighted competitive pricing, a skilled workforce, and Bangladesh's status as the world's second-largest exporter of ready-made garments, earning around $39 billion annually.

The ambassador also noted that Bangladesh hosts the highest number of LEED-certified green garment factories worldwide, showcasing the country's commitment to environmental and social compliance. He pointed out the potential of the home textile sector and the growth of leather and footwear as the second-largest export sector, generating about $1.5 billion annually, with a target to increase this to $5 billion over the next five years.

In addition, the proposed Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Bangladesh and Japan was discussed as a means to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

JETRO's Senior Director Yuji Ando presented on Bangladesh's major export sectors, highlighting the high quality and competitive pricing of Bangladeshi products.
