Dhaka: Bangladesh high commissioner to Maldives Dr Md Nazmul Islam has highlighted the significant demand for opening a Bangladeshi bank branch in the Maldives, which would benefit expatriate workers by offering secure and efficient banking services. He made this statement during a visit to Bangladesh Bank, where he held a detailed meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Governor Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, as mentioned in a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting focused on enhancing financial connectivity and remittance facilitation for the large Bangladeshi expatriate community residing in the Maldives. Dr Md Nazmul Islam stressed the importance of establishing a bank branch to meet the longstanding needs of these workers.
The Bangladesh Bank delegation acknowledged the high commissioner's insights and assured that they are actively working with both public and private banks to advance this initiative. They reiterated their commitment to improve financial access and remittance services for Bangladeshi nationals abroad.
Following the discussions, High Commissioner Islam briefed Bangladesh Bank governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur over the phone, underlining the urgency of setting up a bank branch in the Maldives. Both parties emphasized their commitment to enhancing financial cooperation and supporting the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates, aligning with the broader goals of the Government of Bangladesh.
