Jakarta:Bangladesh's hopes in their maiden FIFA Asean Cup appearance ended with a 1-0 defeat against Singapore, despite showing some improvement in their second Group A match.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Bangladesh's coach Thomas Dooley made four changes to the lineup following a 3-0 loss to Malaysia in their opening game. Jamal Bhuyan, Zidane Yousuf, Shuki Itofusa, and Sheikh Morsalin were introduced, replacing Sohel Rana, Shakil Topu, Farhaan Ali Wahid, and Fahamedul Islam, respectively.
The match against Singapore saw both teams adopting a cautious tactical approach with few clear chances. However, Singapore's Harhys Stewart scored the only goal with a powerful header in the 35th minute. Bangladesh's goalkeeper Mehedy Hasan was kept busy, especially in the first half, but could not prevent the goal. Singapore nearly extended their lead by hitting the crossbar before halftime.
In the second half, Singapore focused on defending their lead, capitalizing on Bangladesh's difficulties in creating scoring opportunities. Singapore's victory keeps them in the running to qualify for the next round when they face Malaysia. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will aim to restore some pride in their final match against hosts Indonesia.
