Algiers: Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers has observed the country’s Independence and National Day with due solemnity and festivity, highlighting the Liberation War’s legacy, Bangladesh’s development trajectory, and growing bilateral engagement with Algeria. Bangladesh Ambassador to Algeria Md. Najmul Huda inaugurated the day’s programme on March 26 by hoisting the national flag at the embassy premises, accompanied by the national anthem in the presence of embassy officials and members of the Bangladeshi community, according to a message received here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a discussion session was held where messages from the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out. A documentary titled “Notun Surjo” was screened, showcasing the country’s historical journey and achievements. In his remarks, the ambassador paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, recalling the sacrifices of three million people and the suffering of countless others. He also remembered the victims of the July-August 2024 mass movement and acknowledged the contributions of international friends and well-wishers in Bangladesh’s independence.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s recent progress, he underscored the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, rule of law, economic growth, investment promotion, and social development under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. A special prayer was offered for the departed souls of the martyrs and for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the country.
In the evening, a grand reception was hosted at a hotel where Algerian Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-up and Micro-industry Noureddine Ouadah attended as the chief guest. The event was attended, among others, by senior government officials, diplomats, political leaders, academics, business representatives, and expatriate Bangladeshis. The reception featured a cake-cutting ceremony and cultural elements, while Bangladesh’s candidature for the Presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly was highlighted, seeking international support.
Earlier on March 25, the embassy observed Genocide Day with due respect, including a moment of silence, reading of messages, and screening of a documentary on the atrocities committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
