Dhaka:A total of 212,118 members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party have been deployed across the country to ensure security during Durga Puja. Eight members are assigned to each high-risk puja mandap, while six are allocated to other mandaps.

According to United News of Bangladesh, 104 striking teams will be on standby to respond swiftly to any incidents. Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, the Director General, announced these measures at a press conference held at the Ansar headquarters. He noted that out of 33,165 puja mandaps identified across the country, 6,914 are considered 'important' and require special attention.

The striking teams will help coordinate security and respond quickly to prevent minor incidents from escalating into major disturbances. The 'Sharadiya Surokkha App' will be used to strengthen security coordination, allowing approximately 66,000 members to register and facilitate communication with law enforcement agencies.

The app, which was successfully used during the last parliamentary election, will again serve as a vital tool for coordination. The force has its own monitoring system to oversee deployed members, and prompt action will be taken against any irregularities or partisan conduct.

The allowance for Ansar members is currently low, ranging from Tk 450 to Tk 500 per day, but a proposal to increase salaries and allowances has been submitted. Members are often on duty late into the night, making logistical support crucial. Discussions with the relevant ministry have resulted in assurances of necessary support.

Challenges include maintaining member presence at assigned locations and providing logistical support, such as food and facilities at puja mandaps. The force will collaborate with puja celebration committees to address these needs. Members are instructed to remain patient and responsible, maintaining control even if tensions arise or they are attacked.

To prevent rumors and ensure coordination, the force has worked with police and other agencies, conducting briefings and meetings at district levels.
