Abu Dhabi:Bangladesh's national cricket team has been fined five percent of their match fee due to a slow over-rate in the opening match of the ODI tri-series against Zimbabwe.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the sanction was imposed by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees after Bangladesh was found to be one over short of the target, even after accounting for time allowances. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this in a statement.
The ICC's statement explained that under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Captain Tawhid Hridoy admitted to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, which eliminated the need for a formal hearing. The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Allahuddien Paleker and Izatullah Safi, along with third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Ahmed Shah Durrani.
