Tashkent: Bangladesh conceded a 2-0 goal defeat to host Uzbekistan in their AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifying round opening match held on Monday last night at the Do’stlik Stadium in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is far ahead of Bangladesh in terms of strength, and the same disparity exists between the two countries’ youth teams.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, despite concerns of a potential heavy defeat due to Uzbekistan’s dominance, Bangladesh managed to hold their own. The team’s performance, particularly that of goalkeeper Raj Chowdhury, helped in restricting Uzbekistan to just a few goals. Uzbekistan scored once in the first half, with their second goal coming in the second half.
Bangladesh is set to face Syria in their next match on September 3. Syria, like Bangladesh, faced a setback as they lost their opening match 1-0 to India. The tournament structure allows for the eight group winners and the seven best runners-up from the qualifying round to advance to the AFC U-20 Asian Cup finals.
