Dhaka:Bangladesh has sought the verdict from a Saudi Arabian court that sentenced two Bangladeshi nationals to death, as announced by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shama Obaed Islam stated that the government is awaiting the verdict to gain clarity and assess the situation. She emphasized the need for patience and cautioned against drawing conclusions from social media posts or misinformation.
The minister mentioned that the government has requested information from Saudi authorities and is awaiting their response. Bangladesh intends to evaluate the situation and determine further actions once the documents are received, in consultation with Saudi officials.
Shama also noted that Saudi authorities regularly send lists of imprisoned Bangladeshis, including their identities and details, to the foreign ministry and Bangladesh missions. The government is verifying whether the names of the two individuals are on these lists.
She reiterated the importance of ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia, a key destination for employment and remittances. The state minister described Saudi Arabia's response to their inquiries as 'very positive' and highlighted the significance of the kingdom for Bangladeshi workers. The ministry has not yet been able to contact the families of the individuals involved due to a lack of detailed information.
