Cumilla: The closing and prize-giving ceremony of the "Bangladesh Army Firing Competition-2026" was held at Cumilla Cantonment today. Chief of Army Staff Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate release this noon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the army chief emphasized the importance of firing proficiency for achieving professional excellence in military service, highlighting its role as an integral part of the basic training of army personnel. He noted that such annual competitions play a crucial role in enhancing the skills and professional standards of army members.
In this year's competition, the 17 Infantry Division emerged as champions, while the Para Commando Brigade finished as runners-up. Soldier Pial Mondol of the 17 Infantry Division was adjudged the best firer. Soldier Tanvir Hossain of the 10 Infantry Division secured second position, while Soldier Joba Akter of the 24 Infantry Division was named best female firer.
A total of 17 teams participated in the competition, representing all formations of the Bangladesh Army, logistics areas, five independent brigades, and the Para Commando Brigade. The event was conducted under the overall supervision of the Headquarters of the 33 Infantry Division since May 16.
Senior military officials, including the Master General of the Ordnance, Commandant of Bangladesh Ordnance Factory, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Infantry Division and Cumilla Area Commander, GOC of the 17 Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, along with senior officers from Army Headquarters and various formations, were present at the event.
