Dhaka: Bangladesh and Switzerland on Monday engaged in discussions aimed at further expanding bilateral trade and investment, with a particular focus on increasing Swiss investment in promising sectors within Bangladesh’s economy. Both nations have identified economic partnership as a pivotal aspect of their bilateral relations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, Reto Renggli, paid a courtesy visit to State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During their meeting, they agreed to pursue practical measures to enhance technical and vocational skills development opportunities for Bangladesh’s workforce. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries would be further strengthened.
The State Minister emphasized the importance of regular exchanges in bolstering political, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Switzerland. Additionally, the Ambassador noted that the operationalization of the new Embassy of Bangladesh in Bern could play a significant role in deepening existing bilateral relations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to shared values, including democracy, human rights, multilateralism, respect for international law, and a rules-based international order. They reiterated their commitment to collaborating in multilateral fora to uphold these values.
In recognition of Bangladesh’s generosity in hosting a large number of Rohingyas, the Ambassador reaffirmed Switzerland’s continued support for their voluntary, safe, and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar. Switzerland remains committed to supporting international efforts towards a durable solution to the crisis.
