Dhaka:Bangladesh and Russia are set to hold the fifth meeting of their Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) in Dhaka on November 5-6, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, energy, banking, education, and technology.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two-day meeting will involve senior government officials and business representatives from both countries. The Russian delegation will be led by Ilya Shestakov, Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries and Chairperson of the Russian side of the Commission.

The discussions will focus on broad economic issues, with particular emphasis on expanding trade, strengthening financial and banking cooperation, and exploring new opportunities in education and information and communication technology (ICT). The meeting will also examine ways to deepen economic engagement and promote interaction between businesses from both nations.

On the sidelines of the commission meeting, the Russia-Bangladesh Business Council and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) will conduct business consultations. These consultations are expected to provide a platform for discussing potential partnerships, investment prospects, and avenues for expanding trade.

The Intergovernmental Commission, established in 2017, serves as a key institutional mechanism for promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields. The previous meeting was held virtually in March 2023, and the upcoming session will mark the return to in-person meetings, allowing direct engagement between senior officials and business representatives.

The Russian side has expressed optimism that the meeting will foster constructive dialogue with the Bangladesh government, which assumed office following the February 2026 elections. It is anticipated that these discussions will inject fresh momentum into bilateral economic relations and strengthen both government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation.
