Dhaka:Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal and Montenegrin MP Gordan Stojovic met to discuss enhancing parliamentary ties between Bangladesh and Montenegro, focusing on the formation of a parliamentary friendship group.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Stojovic proposed creating a parliamentary friendship group to foster mutual relations, parliamentary democracy, and the exchange of legislative experiences and best practices. Kayser Kamal welcomed this proposal and showed a positive attitude towards establishing such a group with the Montenegrin Parliament.

Kayser Kamal emphasized the importance of legislatures, composed of directly elected representatives, in maintaining democratic practices, ensuring a balance of power, and strengthening the relationship between the government and the people.

Stojovic highlighted that the Montenegrin Parliament, like Bangladesh's, is unicameral with 81 members and that its parliamentary committees work closely to scrutinize the executive branch's activities.

Kamal noted political stability as vital for Bangladesh's socioeconomic development. He also advocated for a constructive role from the opposition in building a developed nation, suggesting that opposition parties should not merely oppose the government.

The Deputy Speaker mentioned that Bangladesh had entered a new phase of parliamentary democracy following the July mass uprising, with hopes that this development would significantly improve people's lives and achieve economic freedom.
