Dhaka:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir emphasized the need to explore untapped potential and strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and Lithuania. His remarks focused on areas such as trade, investment, and emerging technologies.
According to United News of Bangladesh, during a meeting with Lithuanian Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas, the State Minister urged Lithuania to increase imports of Bangladeshi products, including readymade garments, textiles, pharmaceutical products, leather, and leather goods.
The discussions also covered investment opportunities in Bangladesh, with an invitation extended to Lithuanian investors to explore these possibilities. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on information technology, e-registration, e-governance, financial technology, cybersecurity, e-transportation, digitization of transport systems, artificial intelligence, and high-tech medical devices.
The Lithuanian Vice-Minister highlighted Lithuania's expertise in these sectors and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Bangladesh. They also talked about employment opportunities, human mobility, migration, and visa facilitation for Bangladeshi students, businesspeople, investors, and tourists.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the issue of Rohingya repatriation and sought Lithuania's support. Discussions included deeper engagement during Lithuania's upcoming presidency of the European Union from January to June 2027. Verbickas congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and expressed hope for strengthened relations during Dr. Rahman's tenure and Lithuania's EU presidency.
The State Minister emphasized the role of the EU-BD Business Forum and the importance of regional connectivity centered on Lithuania in the Baltic region and beyond, which could help explore untapped potential and generate mutual benefits.
