Detroit:Bangladesh is on a transformative journey to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, according to Prof Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning. This transformation aims to move beyond what he described as a fragile economy inherited from previous regimes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Titumir revealed this ambition while speaking as the chief guest at the biennial convention of the American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers and Architects (AABEA) in Detroit, Michigan. He outlined a new development model rooted in a three-R strategyrecovery, restoration, and reconstruction.
The strategy focuses on key areas such as investment, production, employment, and increased public investment in education and healthcare. Prof Titumir emphasized Bangladesh's goal to become a competitive manufacturing hub, leveraging industrial diversification, higher productivity, and technological advancement.
He called upon Bangladeshi-American engineers, scientists, and technology entrepreneurs to connect Bangladesh with the US innovation ecosystem. This includes linking with leading universities, research laboratories, technology companies, and investors. The adviser also encouraged diaspora professionals to mentor young engineers, facilitate technology transfer, establish research partnerships, and help Bangladeshi startups access global capital and markets.
Underlining the value of diaspora expertise, he proposed the creation of a sustained platform to connect this expertise with Bangladesh's universities, industries, and entrepreneurs, transforming individual successes into collective opportunities for the nation.
The convention was presided over by AABEA President Engineer Monir Zaman and attended by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh, and Bangladeshi-American professionals from across the United States.
