Dhaka:Bangladesh's Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat emphasized the importance of starting Airbus aircraft deliveries before 2030. This comes as Bangladesh prepares to sign an agreement on Wednesday to purchase 10 aircraft for Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Millat highlighted the necessity of advancing the delivery schedule during a meeting with a Lufthansa delegation. The meeting, which took place at the minister's office, was led by German Ambassador to Bangladesh Rüdiger Lotz and covered topics including air connectivity between Bangladesh and Germany and the development of Biman.

The minister noted the potential for increased cooperation in civil aviation due to the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Germany. He invited Lufthansa to invest in establishing maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities in Bangladesh, supporting the country's goal of becoming an aviation hub. Additionally, he suggested collaboration with Lufthansa to train skilled aviation personnel locally.

Minister Millat also sought Germany's assistance in removing the European Union's High Risk Cargo and Mail designation for Bangladeshi cargo, a label in place since 2017. He mentioned that the government had implemented measures to address related concerns, citing recent security audit results where both Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Osmani International Airport scored over 90 percent.

Both parties expressed interest in strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing air connectivity, and expanding tourism cooperation. Minister Millat remained optimistic that collaboration between Bangladesh and Germany would grow more extensive and productive in the future.
