Bangla QR Transactions Experience a Fourfold Increase

Dhaka:Transactions through Bangla QR have surged significantly, with the daily transaction volume rising fourfold from Taka 40 crore in June. The increase was highlighted during the launch of the new initiative across several retail networks in the Banani and Gulshan areas of the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh Bank (BB) Deputy Governor Dr. Mohammad Habibur Rahman inaugurated the service. During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Rahman explained that Bangladesh Bank had initiated the expansion of the service nationwide to encourage cashless transactions.

Dr. Rahman further stated that person-to-person (P2P) transaction facilities were introduced on November 1 to enhance service quality. He emphasized that the central bank had undertaken an initiative to introduce Bangla QR services across various retail networks in the country to expand cashless transaction coverage.

The deputy governor also addressed the challenges of extending the service to grassroots levels, noting that limited access to mobile devices and network facilities remained significant obstacles. He called for coordinated efforts among banks, retail networks, and mobile financial service (MFS) providers to overcome these challenges.

Additionally, Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) Managing Director Syed Mahbubur Rahman, who spoke at the event, mentioned that increased cashless transactions would reduce the cost of printing currency notes while enhancing transparency in financial transactions. The expansion of Bangla QR services aims to decrease reliance on cash and make digital payment facilities more accessible across the country.
