Dhaka: Laxmipad Das, the general secretary of the Bandarban district Awami League, was arrested in Dhaka on Monday during a special drive conducted by Mirpur police. Abdul Karim, Additional Police Super (crime and operations) of Bandarban district, confirmed the arrest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Das, 54, who resides in the Rajamhat area in Ward no-4 of Bandarban Paurasova, was brought before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court today under tight security measures. Following a preliminary hearing, Senior Judge Fatema-Tuz-Johra ordered that he be sent to jail.
Police disclosed that Das is accused in five cases related to alleged terrorist activities during student movements that took place in July-August 2024.
