Dhaka:The Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, announced that the government will continue the recently introduced baggage monitoring system at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. This initiative aims to provide better passenger service over the long term.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Millat emphasized that the new system, which includes the installation of monitors, will expedite baggage receipt for passengers and improve overall baggage management. He shared these insights after inspecting the baggage handling system at the airport.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has installed 32 CCTV cameras and 18 large-screen monitors across eight baggage conveyor belt areas to enable arriving passengers to observe their luggage in real time. This system allows passengers to track their baggage from the aircraft unloading through to its final delivery on the baggage reclaim belts, with live footage displayed on 65-inch monitors.
CAAB stated that the initiative is designed to enhance baggage security, transparency, and accountability while addressing passenger concerns regarding delays. It is expected to particularly benefit expatriate Bangladeshis and other international travelers by providing a clearer understanding of baggage processing after arrival.
Minister Millat also mentioned that the government is committed to adopting technology-driven measures to improve airport services, ensuring they become more efficient, transparent, and passenger-friendly. Additionally, he noted that an agreement for the operation of HSIA's Third Terminal with a Japanese consortium is expected to be signed in early November.
Furthermore, the minister addressed the recent suspension of Dhaka-Riyadh and Dhaka-Dammam flights due to security concerns in Saudi Arabia, which has affected many travelers. The relevant authorities have been directed to provide maximum possible assistance to passengers impacted by these disruptions.
