Bagerhat:Dhaka Former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting and fugitive Awami League leader Mohammad Ali Arafat has been accused of spreading misinformation by misrepresenting a fatal incident. Arafat falsely portrayed a man killed in a land dispute in Bagerhat as a worker shot dead by police during a labor movement in Savar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the digital investigative media outlet and fact-checking watchdog The Dissent debunked this misleading claim. They revealed that Arafat shared a photograph on social media with an incorrect caption claiming, "A worker has been killed by police firing in Savar just a while ago."
The fact-check conducted by The Dissent showed that the photograph was unrelated to any incident in Savar. It was actually of a man who was killed due to a land dispute in Bagerhat. A news report published on September 21 detailed that 24-year-old Ahad Ahmed was killed in an attack by his cousin over a land-related disagreement in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
