Dhaka:Rajshahi The cause of death of retired Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Souri will be determined following a preliminary investigation and autopsy, as stated by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Minister emphasized that the post-mortem report and examination of all relevant aspects are necessary before further details can be disclosed. He conveyed this information to reporters at the Bangladesh Police Academy's parade ground in Sarda, Rajshahi. The minister noted that it is premature to confirm the cause of death prior to completing the investigation and autopsy.

Earlier, the body of Tahsif Souri was recovered from the Turag River in Dhaka by the River Police. Inspector Firoz Uddin from the River Police's Tongi outpost reported that the discovery was made after receiving a tip-off through the national emergency service 999. The body was found floating near the Rajabari Ghat area on Wednesday afternoon. A mobile phone found on Souri helped in his identification.

Shahinur Zaman, duty officer at Uttarkhan Police Station, confirmed that the Tongi River Police outpost retrieved the body on Wednesday afternoon, and since it fell under their jurisdiction, they took charge of the situation. The body was subsequently sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Inspector Firoz Uddin noted that there were no visible injury marks on the body.

The River Police's preliminary report indicated that Souri was wearing white pyjamas, a black shirt, a wristwatch, and had an iPhone in his pocket at the time of his death. Souri was also linked to a video that circulated on August 5, 2024, reportedly showing then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina departing the country from Kurmitola Airport.
