Dhaka:Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hussain announced that the transfer and posting of doctors will now be conducted through an automated system, ensuring that political affiliation will not be a factor.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized that the new system prioritizes the merit, qualifications, and preferences of doctors, effectively removing the possibility of political interference or bias. He made these remarks during the official launch of the automated transfer and posting process for doctors working at various medical institutions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The inauguration took place at the Ministry of Public Administration's conference room, with State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhith also in attendance. Sakhawat highlighted that 87 doctors have already been assigned through this system, which he described as a historic advancement. The initiative follows specific directives from the Prime Minister, aiming to eliminate personal connections and political influences in the process.

Sakhawat also mentioned plans to expand the automated system to cover the entire Ministry of Health, contingent on the system's effectiveness. Dr. MA Muhith noted that while around 40,000 doctors currently work under the ministry, past transfer processes had been plagued by political favoritism, corruption, and irregularities. He criticized the previous government's practices of appointing individuals based on political grounds rather than qualifications, which had led to a crisis in the healthcare system.

The event was attended by several notable officials, including Health Services Division Secretary Dr. A.N.M. Bazlur Rashid and other key figures in the medical education sector.
