Narsingdi: The body of an auto-rickshaw driver, who had been missing for 21 days, was recovered from the Brahmaputra River in Narsingdi's Madhabdi area today. The deceased, identified as Ramzan Mia, 32, was the son of Sadar Ali from Rainadi village in Nuralapur Union of Narsingdi Sadar upazila. He worked as a driver of a battery-run auto-rickshaw.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police have confirmed that Ramzan was murdered due to an extramarital affair, and his body was subsequently disposed of in the river. Officer-in-Charge of Madhabdi Police Station, Muhammad Nazrul Islam, stated that Ramzan's decomposed body was retrieved from the Brahmaputra River near Kabirajpur village under Meherpara Union.
The case details reveal that Ramzan left his home with his auto-rickshaw at around 5:30 pm on June 21 and did not return. Following his disappearance, his wife filed a General Diary (GD No. 999) with Madhabdi Police Station on June 22. Subsequently, an abduction case was registered by the police on June 24, based on a formal complaint.
Police investigations, supported by digital surveillance, led to the arrest of the prime accused, Md. Kawsar Mia, 35, and Shamim Mia, 38. Their confessional statements directed the police to Ramzan's body, which was enclosed in a sack and found in the Brahmaputra River near the house of Mannan Mia in the Kabirajpur area.
Another suspect, Md. Sojib, 34, from Nuralapur Union, was also arrested. The investigation uncovered that Ramzan had an illicit relationship with Sojib's wife. Upon discovering the affair, Sojib, along with his friend Kawsar, allegedly conspired to murder Ramzan and dispose of his body with the assistance of their accomplices.
The three accused have been officially charged with the murder and were presented before the court today. The body has been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
