Dhaka: Australian High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, today met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson's Gulshan political office. The meeting was attended by BNP Standing Committee members Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, along with Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, following the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury addressed journalists, stating that there should be no concern regarding the upcoming national parliament elections. He emphasized that voters and political parties desire stability in the country and that elections should proceed in a disciplined manner.
Khasru highlighted the BNP's role in initiating reforms, referencing the party's 2030 vision, which includes 31 proposed reform points. He stressed the importance of progressing swiftly toward elections for the benefit of the country. The BNP leader also noted that discussions with the Australian envoy naturally touched on electoral matters.
Khasru pointed out the long-standing issue where Bangladeshis have been unable to exercise their voting rights in recent elections. He expressed anticipation that the next election will witness high voter turnout, particularly among the younger generations who have yet to experience voting.
The discussions with the Australian envoy also covered election preparations, with assurances from Australia to assist the Election Commission in ensuring a fair election process. Khasru concluded by stating that Australia's commitment to supporting fair elections in Bangladesh would persist.
