Dhaka: A delegation led by the Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Food and Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari at the Ministry of Food on Thursday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia, focusing particularly on cooperation in food security and food management.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the state minister briefed the delegation on various government initiatives aimed at ensuring food security in Bangladesh. He highlighted the government's commitment to bolstering the country's food stock and supply management system, with special emphasis on food preservation and modern storage facilities. Abdul Bari emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring food security for all citizens and acknowledged the ongoing challenges in providing safe food for everyone. He stated that while the issue cannot be resolved overnight, several necessary measures have been undertaken, and efforts will continue with support from all stakeholders.
The Australian envoy expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's achievements in socio-economic development and food management. She commended the strong bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia, which have been maintained since Bangladesh's independence. The High Commissioner also noted the presence of around 28,000 Bangladeshi students in Australia and proposed the export of wheat from Australia to Bangladesh.
The meeting was attended by Australia's Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, Second Secretary (Economic) Joshua Gacutan, Food Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, and senior officials of the Ministry of Food.
