Brisbane:Despite a record-breaking century from Sobhana Mostary, Bangladesh fell to a nine-wicket defeat against Australia in the second ODI at Allan Border Field. This victory secured Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, rendering the final match inconsequential.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh's defeat was particularly disappointing as the team achieved several records during the match. Sobhana Mostary scored 118 off 134 balls, hitting 18 boundaries. Her score was the highest individual score by a female Bangladeshi batter, and her 72 runs from boundaries set another record for Bangladesh's female team.
In a significant partnership, Sobhana and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty put on 195 runs for the fourth wicket, which became Bangladesh's highest partnership for any wicket against any team. Joty remained not out on 74. Despite these achievements, Bangladesh was bowled out for 220-6, with no other batter aside from Sobhana and Joty reaching double figures.
After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh was reduced to 8-3 due to the effective bowling of Megan Schutt, who finished with figures of 4-36 and also executed a run-out. Sobhana and Joty managed to stabilize the innings, setting a platform for a total above 200 runs.
However, Australia made the chase look easy, propelled by Georgia Voll's aggressive 131 not out from 97 balls, which included 19 boundaries. Voll and opener Phoebe Litchfield shared a 162-run partnership, setting a strong foundation for the team's victory. Litchfield was dismissed for 70 by Shorna Akter, but Voll, alongside Ellyse Perry, who scored 19 not out, guided Australia to 222-1 in 28.1 overs.
The final ODI of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at the same venue.
