Dhaka: Bangladesh’s general point-to-point inflation slightly decreased to 8.26 percent in August 2026, a minor drop from 8.32 percent in July, primarily due to a decline in food inflation, as reported by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, food inflation fell to 7.02 percent in August, down from 7.16 percent in July, while non-food inflation experienced a slight increase, rising to 9.32 percent from 9.28 percent during the same timeframe. The general inflation rate for August was notably lower than the 9.42 percent registered in May, indicating a continued moderation in overall price pressures over recent months.
Inflation rates in rural areas remained slightly higher than those in urban areas for August. Rural inflation was recorded at 8.31 percent, with food inflation pegged at 7.01 percent and non-food inflation at 9.59 percent. In contrast, urban areas saw general inflation at 8.20 percent, with food inflation at 7.04 percent and non-food inflation at 8.97 percent.
The 12-month moving average inflation also showed a decline, dropping to 8.66 percent for the period from September 2025 to August 2026, compared to 9.58 percent in the corresponding period the previous year. Meanwhile, the Wage Rate Index saw a year-on-year increase of 8.05 percent in August, slightly down from 8.22 percent in July.
