Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today emphasized that the aspiration of the July Uprising is to establish a new Bangladesh. Rizvi articulated that the self-sacrifice and aspirations of the martyrs during the uprising aim to create a country where no fascist will be born again, opposing political parties' voices will not be suppressed, and the freedom of expression will be upheld. He envisions a Bangladesh where people can move freely and securely, which he described as the core spirit of the July Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these remarks to the media following an event where he provided financial assistance to ailing radio artist Afroza Nizami in Shyamoli on behalf of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The event was attended by several notable figures, including Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Convener of Amra BNP Poribar, a platform of BNP.
Rizvi reiterated BNP's support for the July National Charter, stressing the need for its principles and intentions to be communicated in a manner understandable to the general public. He also expressed concerns about the format of the referendum questions related to the charter, suggesting they should be framed clearly for common comprehension.
Rizvi accused the Awami League of attempting to create instability in the country with significant financial backing from India, aiming to create a state of fear nationwide. Addressing the issue of Sheikh Hasina's trial, Rizvi stated that it is a judicial matter, yet he underscored the public's demand for a fair trial regarding the killings.
He also warned that the country is being steered into a murky state, blaming the deposed autocrat for engaging in conspiracies from a neighboring nation. Rizvi accused them of inciting violence, including burning cars in Dhaka, Gazipur, and other locations, attributing such actions to what he termed as "Awami culture." He concluded by asserting that if the government had eradicated the roots of fascism from the onset, the current situation would not have arisen.
