Arrest Warrants Issued for Sheikh Hasina and 40 Others in Mohammadpur Killings

Dhaka: A court here today issued arrest warrants against 41 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-minister Obaidul Quader, in connection with two killings in Mohammadpur during the July Mass Uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam took cognizance of the charge-sheets and set February 15 for submission of reports on executing the warrants.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, other notable figures named include former ministers Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, lawmaker Sadek Khan, and leaders of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League. The cases are linked to two separate incidents that led to these legal actions.



The first case involves truck driver Hossain, who was shot and killed on July 19, 2024. This incident prompted Hossain’s mother, Rina Begum, to file a case on August 31, 2024. Police subsequently filed a charge-sheet against 34 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.



In a separate incident, CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sobuj was shot on August 4, 2024, and succumbed to his injuries later that day. His brother, Monir Hossain, filed the case on September 1, 2025. Police filed a charge-sheet on November 27, 2025, against 30 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
