Army Detain Three UPDF Members with Arms and Ammunition in Chittagong Hill Tracts

Dhaka: Chittagong Hill Tracts The Bangladesh Army, during a strategic operation on Saturday noon, detained three members of the United People’ Democratic Front (UPDF-main), including an alleged toll collector, Ronel Chakma, in the Budongchhara area under the Guimara Region.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, arms, ammunition, and extortion-related materials were seized during the operation, as stated in a press release by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate. The army team positioned themselves in the area around noon based on specific intelligence inputs and encountered several armed individuals on motorcycles attempting to pass through the location.



When the army personnel signaled the suspects to stop, they allegedly opened fire, prompting the soldiers to retaliate in self-defense. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, a UPDF (main) member, Sathoai Marma, 32, sustained bullet injuries, while Ronel Chakma, 28, and Searching Marma alias Raju, 22, were detained.



The army team recovered an AK-22 rifle with a magazine, six rounds of live ammunition, a fired cartridge case, and other related equipment from the scene. The ISPR emphasized that such operations would continue in the CHT region to maintain peace, harmony, and stability, as well as to curb terrorism and extortion activities.
