Rajshahi: Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman today reviewed troops deployed ‘in aid of civil power’ in northwestern Rajshahi and Rangpur regions when he gave them necessary directives and exchanged views with officials of civil administration over the upcoming elections, an ISPR statement said here today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zaman joined two identical meetings at Rangpur Circuit House and Infantry Regimental Centre (BIRC) in Rajshahi with senior military officers and divisional and district-level civil officials. The meetings discussed issues of inter-institutional coordination and security management to hold the election in a peaceful, neutral, and fair manner. The army chief emphasized ‘professionalism, neutrality, discipline, patience, and citizen-friendly behavior’ in discharging responsibilities.

During the Rangpur and Rajshahi visits, the general officer commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC), GOCs of Rangpur and Bogura areas, and commissioners of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions joined the view exchange meetings. Other senior officials of civil administration and law enforcement agencies, senior military officers from the Army Headquarters and cantonments in the northwestern region, and representatives of media also attended the meetings.

GOC and area commander of Rangpur commands the 66 Infantry Division while GOC and area commander of Bogura commands the 11 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army.
