Dhaka: Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today left the capital for the Central African Republic on a three-day official visit. During the visit, he will inspect the activities of Bangladeshi contingents stationed in the Central African Republic and also different programmes of Bangladeshi peacekeepers present there, said a press release of Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, apart from these inspections, the Army chief is scheduled to inaugurate a community clinic constructed by the Bangladesh Army peacekeepers for providing medical services to the people of that country. This initiative highlights the ongoing commitment of the Bangladesh Army to humanitarian efforts in the region.
Currently, a total of five contingents of the Bangladesh Army are now being engaged in peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic. Moreover, since 2014, a total of 9,961 army personnel have served as peacekeepers, and 11 have sacrificed their lives while engaged in peacekeeping operations in this conflict-ridden African country, the release added.
