Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has extended heartfelt greetings to the members of the army, navy, and air force on the occasion of Armed Forces Day. In a statement issued today, the party’s Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar emphasized the significance of November 21 in the nation’s history, marking it as Armed Forces Day. He conveyed sincere greetings to the members of the armed forces and paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the War of Liberation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Golam Porwar highlighted that on this day in 1971, the Army, Navy, and Air Force members launched a coordinated counterattack against the Pakistani occupation forces, joined by members of the Mukti Bahini, various paramilitary forces, and patriotic civilians. This combined assault led to the final victory on December 16, 1971, and November 21 is commemorated annually as Armed Forces Day to celebrate this legacy and the triumph in the Liberation War.
Golam Porwar further recognized the armed forces’ sacrifices and their role in preserving the nation’s independence, sovereignty, security, and peace, which have cemented their place in the nation’s history. He expressed hope that the armed forces would continue to uphold these responsibilities in the future.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in UN peacekeeping missions, which has enhanced the country’s image on the international stage. He stated that the armed forces’ role in protecting the country’s independence and territorial integrity is unquestionable and highlighted their support to civil administration during natural disasters and their contribution to maintaining law and order.
Mia Golam Porwar concluded by expressing his belief that a strong-armed force founded on justice, truth, and humanitarian values can ensure a stable and secure future for the nation.
