Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 has scheduled August 4 for the commencement of arguments in a high-profile crimes against humanity case. The case involves seven individuals, including Awami League (AL) General Secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader, in connection with the killings that occurred during the July Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury made the decision after the completion of witness testimonies in the case. The accused, apart from Obaidul Quader, include Awami League Joint General Secretary A F M Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, and its General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil. The case also names Saddam Hossain and Wali Asif Inan, who were President and General Secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, respectively.
The tribunal previously issued an arrest warrant for the seven accused on December 18, 2025, following the formal acceptance of charges filed against them. The upcoming arguments mark a significant phase in this legal proceeding, drawing attention to the alleged events surrounding the July Mass Uprising.
