Anti-tobacco workshop held for journalists

An anti-tobacco programme was held for journalists in Dhaka Saturday to reduce tobacco consumption through media reports and broadcasts.

The Association for the Prevention of Drug Abuse (MANAS) arranged the “Anti-tobacco orientation” programme at the BMA auditorium in the capital.

The National Tobacco Control Cell Programme Officer Aminul Islam Sujan discussed the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act.

Ekattor Television Special Correspondent Sushanta Sinha presented a research paper on the necessity of withdrawal of government share from British American Tobacco (BAT).

Kazi Jebunnesa Begum, additional secretary at the Health Services Division, was the chief guest at the first session.

Former Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the second session as the chief guest.

Dr Arup Ratan Choudhury, founding president of MANAS, presided over the programme.
