Dhaka: A court today ordered the arrest of eight political figures of the fallen Awami League, including several former ministers, in connection with three separate murder and attempted murder cases tied to the 2024 July Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ariful Islam passed the order after the accused were presented in court. Separate petitions were filed seeking to show their arrests in cases lodged with Jatrabari and Bhatara Police Stations.
The accused include former ministers Anisul Haque, Amir Hossain Amu, Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, Rashed Khan Menon, and Hasanul Haq Inu. Also named were former MPs Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman and Kazi Monirul Islam Monu, alongside Nazrul Islam Majumder, chairman of NASA Group.
Court proceedings revealed that Anisul, Amu, Razzaque, Inu, Menon, and Barrister Suman were shown arrested in the Riaz Murder Case filed with Jatrabari Police Station. Kazi Monirul Islam Monu was implicated in the Zubaid Murder Case, also filed with Jatrabari Police Station. Nazrul Islam Majumder was shown arrested in the attempted murder of Naim Hossain Niloy, a case filed with Bhatara Police Station.
Following the hearing, the court directed that all eight accused be remanded to jail.
