Dhaka: Television actor Zaher Alvi has alleged that he will be killed if he returns to Dhaka. In a video message posted on social media on Monday night, Alvi said he had bought a ticket with Biman Bangladesh Airlines to return to the country to see his wife, Afra Ivnath Khan Ikra, for the last time after she reportedly died by suicide.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Alvi disclosed that he had planned to fly back from Nepal on March 1 but was deterred by numerous threats. He claimed that there was information about people positioned outside the airport, ready to attack and kill him upon his arrival. Despite the threats, Alvi expressed his willingness to face legal proceedings if detained by the police, questioning the fate of his son if he were to be killed.
Alvi appealed to the public by asking if they would want his son to lose his father as well. He also accused certain individuals of obstructing him from seeing his wife for the last time.
Ikra reportedly committed suicide at their residence in Mirpur DOHS in the capital on Saturday. Alvi and Ikra were married in 2010.
