Dhaka: All the committees of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement (ADSM), except the Central Committee, have been suspended today. Former Coordinator and President of the ADSM Central Committee, Rifat Rashid, made the announcement at a press conference in front of the National Museum.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rifat Rashid stated, “The activities of all committees across the country, except the central committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, have been suspended as per the decision of the organogram.” The decision stems from concerns that certain elements, referred to as “defeated forces,” are exploiting the platform to damage the anti-discrimination cause.
Rashid urged law enforcement agencies to take legal action against individuals engaging in immoral activities. The suspension follows allegations of extortion against Abdur Razzak Riyad, the acting Convener of the United Private University Students’ Movement, who was implicated after visiting former MP Shammi Ahmed’s residence in Gulshan.
The police have requested a 10-day remand for four individuals, including Riyad, who were arrested in connection with the incident. The case investigating officer, Gulshan Police Inspector (Investigation) Mokhlesur Rahman, submitted the remand application on Sunday, with a hearing scheduled at the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.
