Dhaka: Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, asserted today that efforts are underway to build a consensus involving all sectors to focus on the implementation of reform activities. "We need to build such consensus which will not just represent a particular society or a particular group or a particular section, rather it will become truly national consensus," he mentioned during a discussion with the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Building here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was attended by commission members including Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Hoque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Special Assistant (Consensus Building) to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider. Professor Ali Riaz emphasized the necessity of ensuring participation from ordinary citizens in the reform process alongside political parties.
The discussion saw participation from a 13-member delegation led by AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju. The National Consensus Commission has resumed discussions with political parties today, following the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, to build a national consensus on reform issues, as stated in a press release.
Earlier in the day, the Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal (ML), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Samajtantrik Majdur Party (SMP), and Social Democratic Party submitted their opinions on the reform proposals to Professor Ali Riaz at the office of the Commission in the Parliament Building, representing the left-leaning democratic alliance.
