Dhaka: Vice-president of the National Consensus Commission, Prof Dr Ali Riaz, has urged political parties to reach a consensus on unresolved issues to expedite the preparation of the July Charter. "Reach a consensus on unsolved issues by holding brief meetings to prepare the July Charter quickly," he stated during his opening remarks at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Riaz emphasized the need for swift decisions on nationally important unresolved issues, acknowledging that while there is agreement on many topics, some fundamental matters require further discussion. Today's agenda includes discussions on the Election Commission, Public Service Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, and provisions for appointing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Ombudsman.
Previously, on July 20, the NCC presented a 'coordinated proposal' to political parties regarding the outline of a caretaker government, suggesting the selection of the Chief Adviser through a parliamentary committee. Meanwhile, leftist parties, including the Communist Party Bangladesh and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, staged a brief symbolic walkout to protest an incident involving law enforcement at the Milestone School and College following a fighter jet crash.
Upon their return, Ali Riaz acknowledged the walkout as an exercise of democratic rights and expressed hope that the government's attention would be drawn to the statements made by the parties. Representatives from 28 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, National Citizen Party, Amar Bangladesh Party, and Gana Sanghati Andolan, are participating in the discussions.
