Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested an activist of Awami League today from Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital city, and seized 1380 grams of gunpowder from his possession. The arrestee, Khairul Islam, aged 45, was detained by a squad of DB police from the Tejgaon division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner of DB (media and public relations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the arrest. Information extracted from the arrestee during interrogation led the DB team to seize 1380 grams of gunpowder from the Mohammadpur Thana area in the capital.
Recently, leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations organized a sudden procession in the capital’s Tejgaon area, where crude bombs were exploded to create panic among the people. Khairul Islam was reportedly involved in the procession.
The DMP has expressed its commitment to capturing the remaining AL activists who participated in the procession, underlining their determination to maintain law and order in the city.
