Dhaka: The 6th death anniversary of poet Al Mahmud, whose poetry inspired freedom-loving people from the 1952 Language Movement to the Liberation War of 1971 and the bloody July mass uprising, is being observed today. Al Mahmud enriched Bangla literature through his verses reflecting protest, love, nature, and prayer. He passed away on this day in 2019.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, various social and literary organizations across the country have undertaken programmes, marking the anniversary of the eminent Bangla poet. Abid Azam, editor of the Al Mahmud-focused organization ‘Kaler Kolosh’, said a commemorative programme has been arranged at the Al Mahmud Corner of Bangla Academy at 4:00 pm today.

Distinguished personalities from the fields of art, literature, and culture, along with admirers of the poet, are expected to attend the event. The programme will include discussions on the poet’s life and works, as well as recitations and musical performances.
