Dhaka: Youth World Cup-winning captain Akbar Ali has recently completed Level-2 coaching under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). While his decision to pursue coaching training surprised many, considering he is still an active cricketer, Akbar explained that his main motivation was to enhance his own playing skills.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akbar addressed the curiosity surrounding his decision through a social media post, where he shared a picture of his Level-2 coaching certificate. Akbar expressed, “I always wanted to do this since I was very young. Because I believe it will help me grow as a player and as a person.” He also conveyed gratitude for the support from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ECB in helping him complete the course.

As the National Cricket League T20 season is set to commence next month, players, including Akbar, will undergo fitness tests before the tournament. With a career comprising 22 first-class, 92 List ‘A’, and 68 T20 matches, Akbar is preparing to return home to participate in this event. Despite the achievements of his Under-19 teammates in joining the national team, Akbar is yet to secure his place, mainly due to inconsistent performances.
