Dhaka: Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) today paid rich tributes to the memory of 1971 Liberation War veteran Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman to mark the anniversary of his 54th martyrdom, an ISPR statement said. ‘Bangladesh Air Force observed the 54th martyrdom anniversary . . . with due solemnity,’ the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) of the defense ministry statement said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BAF organized special prayers at mosques of its every base and unit, while special munajat was also offered seeking divine blessings for the departed soul. His noble heroic sacrifice in the 1971 War of Liberation was remembered with high esteem.
In Dhaka, BAF’s Air Officer Commanding of Bir Uttam AK Khandker Base, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Khair Ul Afsar, participated in a special munajat in the morning, offered for the salvation of his departed soul at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard at Mirpur, and commemorated his contribution with great solemnity. Senior officers and airmen from Air Headquarters and BAF Bases in the Dhaka area were also present on the occasion.
The statement mentioned that different BAF-run schools and colleges organized various programs highlighting the stupendous contribution of Matiur Rahman during the Liberation War, which earned him the ‘Bir Sreshtho’ title, the highest gallantry award of Bangladesh. Prayers and munajats were also offered in BAF schools and colleges seeking divine blessings for him.
