Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today announced that Bangladesh would collaborate with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to tackle the ongoing energy crisis and support future development initiatives. The announcement came after a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and an AIIB delegation at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the finance minister detailed discussions held on Bangladesh’s collaboration with AIIB, particularly addressing the global and domestic energy crises affecting economies worldwide. To mitigate these challenges, AIIB has agreed to provide budget support to Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted AIIB’s commitment to supporting climate-related projects in Bangladesh. These initiatives include investments in solar power, electric vehicles, and other environmentally-focused projects. The finance minister emphasized that generating 20 to 30 percent of the country’s electricity from solar power could significantly alleviate Bangladesh’s energy crisis, a goal that AIIB is willing to support.
In addition to energy and climate projects, Chowdhury stated that AIIB would also assist with various infrastructure projects across the country, underscoring a broad scope of collaboration aimed at bolstering Bangladesh’s development trajectory.
