Chattogram: Aich Mollah and Suvagata Hom struck crucial half-centuries to help Mymensingh recover from an early setback and stabilize their innings against Chattogram Division in the fourth round of the National Cricket League (NCL) at Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Chattogram.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mymensingh, after choosing to bat first, found themselves in trouble at 85-4. However, they managed to end Day 1 on a more solid footing at 271-8. Aich Mollah contributed a significant 65 runs, while Shuvagata Hom added 54 runs to the total.
By the end of the day, Arif Ahmed was unbeaten on 36, and Maruf Mridha was not out on 22, having put together a valuable 58-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Mymensingh's innings began on a shaky note, losing both openers, Mahfijul Islam and Naim Sheikh, cheaply for 10 and 3 runs, respectively. Azizul Hakim Tamim and Abdul Majid attempted to stabilize the innings with a 42-run partnership, but Majid's dismissal for 17 runs put the team under pressure again. Hakim, who scored 36, soon followed, deepening the early crisis.
The situation improved when Shuvagata and Aich combined for a 96-run partnership for the sixth wicket, steering the innings back on track.
Chattogram's off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was instrumental in dismantling the Mymensingh batting order, taking 3-77, while Irfan Hossain supported him with figures of 2-60.
