Cumilla:Agriculture Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid has emphasized the importance of safe food production and technical education as key factors in advancing the country.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister made these remarks on Saturday during a seminar titled 'Technical Education and Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.' This event was part of a three-day technical education and innovation fair organized by the Cumilla District Technical, Vocational Education and Training Institution Forum at the Cumilla Town Hall field.

During his speech, the minister highlighted the richness of Bangladesh's environment for agriculture, noting its unique soil, air, sunlight, and rainfall, as well as the hardworking nature of its people. However, he expressed concern over the health risks posed by the excessive use of pesticides, which he said leads to cancer, particularly affecting farmers.

Minister Rashid underscored the need to focus on producing safe food, despite the global abundance of food, due to a severe shortage of 'safe food.' He also shared the government's ambition to transform agricultural products into leading export items, citing the country's recent progress in not having to import onions.

He expressed optimism about Bangladesh's future in exporting various agricultural products, including onions, green chillies, carrots, and tomatoes, envisioning a time when these imports will be unnecessary.

The minister also praised university students for assisting their families in agricultural work during holidays, encouraging a practical approach to agriculture. At the event's start, he visited various stalls showcasing student projects, commending their innovative efforts. The seminar was presided over by Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Rosy Akter.
