Dhaka: Fisheries, livestock and agriculture minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid today emphasized that everyone should work together to ensure safe food. “Ensuring safe food for all is crucial. Vigilance is needed at all levels, including food production and processing. We do not want heavy metals to enter the food chain.”

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks as the chief guest at the 10th meeting of the CGIAR Advisory Committee held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium in Farmgate of the city. Aminur Rashid highlighted the potential of Bangladesh to become a hub for global food production due to its favorable weather and soil conditions. He noted, “We have the potential to make agriculture export-oriented. The country’s economy will not stabilize until agricultural products are export-oriented.”

He further mentioned that agricultural irrigation is being transitioned completely to solar power, with efforts underway to maximize the use of solar energy this year. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, Executive Chairman of BARC and Chairperson of the CGIAR Advisory Committee. Dr. Rafiqul I. Mohammed, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, was present as a special guest.
